Freshman sire Multidimensional (Danehill) has set a new record in India, with seven individual Classic winners, writes Sharan Kumar.

Four-year-old filly Roses In Bloom won the Gr.1 Golconda Derby on Sunday to give her sire a unique distinction in the history of Indian breeding. Burden Of Proof (Fairy King), who has singlehandedly lifted the fortunes of Kunigal Stud Farm, held the record with five individual winners in his first year at stud and India’s all time best sire Razeen (Northern Dancer) had four Classic winners as a freshman sire.

The leading nursery in India, Usha Stud Farm stands the son of Danehill, who won the Gr.2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano over ten furlongs as a three-year-old. He has really given a boost to the stud, proving an ideal replacement for Razeen, who died three years ago.

Alaindair, winner of the Gr.1 Colts Championships and Gr.1 Kingfisher Derby, Roses In Bloom, winner of the Gr.1 Golconda Derby, Amelia, winner of the Gr.1 Fillies Championship, Snowdrift, winner of the Gr.1 Calcutta Derby, Winged Foot, winner of the Gr.2 Bangalore Oaks, Artesia, winner of the Gr.2 Calcutta Oaks, Striking, winner of the Gr.2 Calcutta 1,000 Guineas, are the individual Classic winners by Multidimensional and, with a few Classics still left to be run in India, he has a good chance of adding to the list."

Bold Majesty (Multidimensional(IRE) / Fond Fantasy) wins the Bangalore 2000 Guineas (Gr.2)
