Razeen sires his forth Indian Derby winner
Ameeta Mehra's Northern Dancer horse Razeen added another Indian Derby to
his record when his son Southern Regent, who had looked a bit unlucky not to
win the 2,000 Guineas, stayed on strongly to win this year's version of the
race by three lengths from the Al Nasr Alwasheek filly Farida Kahloo and
Stormtrooper's son Flavius Victor. The Latter pair carried the Dhunjibhoy
colours.
The 1,000 Gns and Oaks winner Venus Arising, bred like Southern Regent at
the Mehra-owned Usha Stud, got a poor ride on this occasion and was a fast
finishing fifth. The winner is trained by Bangalore-based Ganapathy for
India's biggest owner M A M Ramaswamy.
Southern Regent's dam Allinda is by the Vaguley Noble horse Treasure Leaf,
who comes from Glint of Gold's family, and out of the Habitat mare Lady
Harriet, who was closely related to Montiverdi and is dam of an Indian
Derby, Enrico, herself ... |
